Today we’d like to introduce you to Jovan “Gail” Brumfield.
Hi Jovan “Gail”, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey & love for business, health and wellness started over 17 years ago. I have always been very business savvy and spent over 17 years creating and running businesses for other people but never anything that was mine or anything that I was passionate about.
On May 16, 2017 while hospitalized on my birthday for back pain, I received the most horrifying & devastating news one could ever imagine, I was diagnosed with an incurable blood Cancer called “Multiple Myeloma”.
This news was unbelievable to me because I’ve lived my best & healthiest life ever. I had no signs, no symptoms, no family history it literally came out of nowhere. Not only did I almost lose my life, I lost the ability to walk, care for myself, was given a short amount of time to live and to make matters worse my husband at the time had removed me from our bank accounts, all of our business that I spent that last 15 years building and left me with $25 to my name. I WAS BROKEN! I was devastated, confused, scared, every emotion that you could imagine I felt all at once. Imagine finding out that you have terminal cancer then finding out that you only have $25 left to your name!
Desperate for money and income to pay for cancer treatments and living expenses Night In Gail was given life. Honestly having my own company and plant-based product line was always a dream of mine, but like many mothers and wives, I always put my wants and dreams on the back burner for my family & family business.
Being hit with all of these life obstacles at the same time forced me to focus on my company & I couldn’t be more thankful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been everything but smooth. In business and in life, you have up and downs / good days and bad days. Someday you do really well and then sometimes I can go almost one month without receiving any orders. It’s a roller coaster ride for sure but I rather the stress from building my own company rather than building something from someone else that they don’t appreciate or respects. It’s not easy battling cancer, starting and funding a company from scratch, building trust with customers and still trying to have enough energy to actually make and ship orders. Everyday is a struggle for me but I’m thankful to still be alive and to have another opportunity at life so I willingly take whatever comes.

Everything about me and my company is based off of pure energy, positive vibes, self-love and healing. I’m all about clean, healthy living. Walking in your purpose, living with passion, being kind to each other and speaking the life you want into existence.
Being a pescatarian for over 13 years and then transitioning to being a vegan has helped me tremendously when it comes to sourcing ingredients and products for my own company. Recently I taught myself how to make manifestation Candles. This for me was such a proud movement because not only was it another way to expand my brand but for a year, I was so scared to make my first candle, maybe it was the fear of failing and one day I woke up and said you know what I’m going to just go for it. If it doesn’t work, I’ll try again and if it works then I’ve just created another stream of income.
So I went for it and they turned out absolutely amazing. Minutes within me posting them on my Instagram and website, they were sold out. Everyone loves them, they smell amazing and you can instantly feel and see that they are made with love.
I’m so proud of myself and my company for offering clean, plant-based alternatives for people the enjoy. Even my candles are made from quality plant-based coconut apricot cream wax, which is a very luxurious cream and safe to burn in your home.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I truly believe without risk there’s no reward, you have to live on the edge of your comfort zone if you ever want to make it in life. That’s where all the magic happens so I’m definitely a risk taker. I’m a trendsetter I was one of the first women over ten years ago who ventured into the cannabis business when no one was talking about doing cannabis people looked at me like a drug dealer. Lol, I was owning and running one of the biggest cannabis companies in California call Kurupt’s Moonrocks now look everywhere you turn everyone has a cannabis brand. I was literally the first!
So take the risk get out on the front line and venture out in the unknown. Push the envelope. That works for me, that’s where all the reward is, that’s where all the growth is, that’s where the happiness is.
